Luxury vinyl flooring is strong, waterproof, affordable, and easy to care for. This is a great option for those who want the budget-friendly and realistic look of wood, stone, or tile. The waterproof capabilities make it ideal for the kitchen or bath, but it's stylish enough for any room in the house from the living area to the bedroom.

Style

This flooring is a remarkable mimic of authentic wood, tile, or stone. Technology does play a large role in vinyl's evolution. Images are taken with 3D photography so they are clear and accurate. There's also an almost unlimited number of colors, patterns, and designs. Embossing adds depth and dimension and makes it possible to get textured appearances: wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered, or distressed.

If you need further convincing, think specifically of genuine hardwood. Almost all hardwood is coated with either a polyurethane or factory finish. You are walking on plastic, not the wood. Vinyl is plastic, so add the 3D images of wood and you have an amazing resemblance.

The flooring can be cut into planks or groutable square tile-sized pieces. Some feel the extra seams add even more realism. While the planks are most often associated with hardwood, some use them in a stone mimic because of the larger format and fewer seams. Finishes are matte, gloss, or high gloss.

Wear layers and durability

All vinyl is durable, and the luxury version is even thicker. It also has a dense top clear melamine wear layer that protects the floor against scratches, scuffs, and wears. Cores are important to a flooring's stability and waterproof; this one will stand up to water for hours without peeling or rippling.

Installation is an uncomplicated and fast floating floor, but the installer will need to make sure the subfloor is even; otherwise, imperfections will telegraph through to the surface. The pieces click together to form a mat which then hovers over the subfloor.
